PUBLIC RELATIONS MANAGER

General Summary of Responsibilities:

The Public Relations Manager executes top-class marketing for Cascade Designs. This is achieved by developing and managing all public relations activities in support of business unit and brand objectives as well as Cascade Designs corporate presence.

Job Duties:
  • Work closely with the VP of Product Development and Marketing Services and business unit leadership (VP’s and Marketing Directors) to develop public relations plans in support of corporate, business unit, and brand objectives.
  • Direct activities of external PR agencies that develop and implement communication strategies and information programs.
  • Evaluate Business Unit advertising and promotion programs for compatibility with public relations efforts.
  • Manage execution of public relations function including: o Media relations & tracking o Community relations o Influencer relations o Corporate communications including crisis response o Press trips o Media events o Sponsorship opportunities o Athlete relationships o Corporate social giving
Education, Skills and Abilities:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, with a focus on Marketing
  • 5+ years relevant experience in public relations, preferably in the specialty outdoor sporting goods industry
  • Active in outdoor specialty activities
  • Experience sourcing and managing external resources such as consultants, agencies and professional services firms
  • Project management experience

BUYER

General Summary of Responsibilities:

Plan and purchase assigned raw materials, parts and services in support of company requirements relating to inventory targets, fulfillment goals, costs and production of finished goods. Routinely assist Purchasing Mgr. with gathering, compiling and reporting, purchasing related data from database.

Job Duties:
  • Use MRP software to monitor inventory levels and plan purchases for on-time delivery. Analyze demand, supplier price, delivery and sales forecast to determine the correct purchase quantities.
  • Coordinate between suppliers and company representatives for all sourcing activities related to assigned parts & materials.
  • Participate in planning processes, developing new programs, special projects and on-going quality improvements.
  • Maintain highly effective and professional written and oral communications with all levels of employees and adhere to a high code of purchasing ethics.
  • Determine status of purchase orders as required ensuring shipments are on time.

  • Coordinate the development and qualifications of potential new suppliers with purchasing staff and company representatives.
  • Maintain and set-up SKU’s in MPR system
  • Travel as needed
Education, Skills and Abilities:
  • BA degree or equivalent experience.
  • Continuous education in purchasing field encouraged

SEASONAL MECHANIC TECHNICIAN

General Summary of Responsibilities:

Serves as production maintenance with a focus on producing a quality product to schedule. Constructs, maintains and tests mechanical equipment, machinery and components. Identifies parts or machines that need new parts or need to be replaced and places orders as necessary. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and /or formal training in area of specialty. Requires 2 years of experience in the field or in a related area. May be familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within a given field. Is able to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks.

Job Duties:
  • Provides support for production line problems.
  • Perform repairs to equipment

  • With supervision builds new equipment (Fabrication, machining, controls, etc.)
  • Preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Maintain Company Vehicles.
  • Maintain forklifts.
Education, Skills and Abilities:
  • Minimum high school diploma.
  • Preferred 2 year technical degree
  • 2 years experience in industrial maintenance.
  • Production line trouble shooting skills
  • Interpersonal skills a must
  • Must know Hydraulic, Pneumatics, mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems
  • Must be able to read and work from blue prints
  • Welding, fabrication and machining
  • Must be able to read and work from electrical schematics and ladder logic

PRODUCT MANAGER – PLATYPUS

General Summary of Responsibilities:

The Product Manager for Platypus will assist the Brand Director in developing a comprehensive product line strategy, and then execute that strategy by leading development teams to find innovative solutions that fulfill customer requirements. They will communicate product information both inside and outside of the company, and support the product already in the marketplace by determining the ongoing fitness for use of the product. This position is also responsible for being the primary back up to the Brand Director, staying up to date on industry and consumer trends as well as competitive product offerings.

Job Duties:
  • Work with Brand Director to understand market needs and develop overall product line strategy. Assist in the business case development for new products, including defining business objectives, product positioning, product requirements, and financial return on investment. Assist in the periodic review of existing products, including decisions to update or cull from the line.
  • Prioritize, coordinate, and participate in all product development projects for assigned product lines. Be the project manager and/or technical lead when necessary. Understand customer needs and establish and maintain product/packaging design briefs. Review designs and specifications developed by design team to ensure requirements are met, work with manufacturing to ensure manufacturability and design quality, and establish and monitor relationships with key suppliers. Be the key driver behind the research and evaluation of new technologies. Approve and coordinate design changes.
  • Responsible for ensuring products are designed, packaged, and manufactured in a way that fully satisfies the needs of the customers. Work with cross-functional teams to complete and respond to appropriate testing, including fitness for use and market validation.
  • Monitor product line profitability and critical quality issues. Assist Brand Director with pricing decisions. Responsible for direct product costs, including: bill of materials, bill of labor and make/buy decisions. Minimize the cost of obsolete materials and finished goods when considering and implementing design and packaging changes.
  • Coordinate with Marketing to assure technical accuracy of copy and product positioning. Product Managers are responsible for accuracy of all product claims and Instructions for Use. Provide input on website content, packaging, POS materials, and naming of products in assigned product lines.
  • Benchmark competitive product performance, pricing, distribution, technology, development tools, and quality. Coordinate Technical Competitive Analyses by requesting lab and comparative analyses of competitive product.
  • Coordinate with the Legal department to ensure product lines meet all applicable regulatory standards. Understand regulations that govern the design, functionality, or use of the products and translate that to product development teams. Assure (along with Legal) that appropriate licenses and permits are obtained and maintained for the sale of products.
  • Coordinate with Marketing services, Product Development, and the Legal department to ensure appropriate patent protection for all assigned products.
  • Support Consumer Service, Sales departments, reps and key accounts with product line training (e.g. clinics, field promotions) and product information as requested. Coordinate development and production of new product sales samples for the lines. Trade show, regional rep shows, consumer events and distributor support as necessary.
  • Responsible for spending time in the field using the product to better understand the customer and the product line needs from a first-hand perspective. Product Managers must understand the history of the product line and the end consumer’s use for their products, and champion the voice of the customer throughout the development process.
Education, Skills and Abilities:
  • Passion for the product line and minimum 2 years product manager experience in the outdoor industry. Must have a balanced blend of 1) manufacturing/product development for products with similar complexity and liability and 2) business management.
  • BA/BS degree required, preferably in engineering or otherwise technical field. Or 10 years equivalent experience.
  • Good verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate and win consensus of others that do not report directly to you.
  • Ability to resolve conflicting priorities to achieve multiple goals.
  • Competent in business/retail math.
  • Proficiency with PCs, technical drawings, 3D modeling software, spreadsheets, etc.
  • Active outdoor participant is highly desirable.
