MIRCOBIOLOGIST I

General Summary of Responsibilities:

In this role you will be responsible for conducting chemical and microbiological research and product development under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor. The ideal candidate will be highly organized with strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with other laboratory personnel. A willingness to work with others or independently as required; reliability, strong work ethic and standards, as well as ability to document work in a lab notebook and English fluency are necessary.

Job Duties:
  • Conduct all necessary preparations for material and product testing. This may include preparing the test site, ordering materials, assembling test samples, and setting up or taking down equipment.
  • Perform all viral and bacterial preparation, testing and cleanup as necessary. This may include: a. Growth and maintenance of various bacteria and virus species as required for experiments. b. Preparation and maintenance of various required growth media. c. Cleaning and sterilization of supplies and biohazard materials in the autoclave or by other proper sterilization techniques.
  • Operate and assist in maintaining laboratory facilities, standard methods, equipment and records.
  • Responsible for assisting in maintenance of common supply and equipment storage areas.
  • Inform supervisor of supply needs as they arise.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed and up-to-date laboratory notebook documenting all laboratory work.
  • Compile test results, aid in analysis of experimental data and keep Laboratory Supervisor of progress and changes during testing.
  • Apply and review sound microbiological and chemical testing techniques.
  • Assist in making sure that all procedures are performed with accuracy and precision while complying with safety regulations, notifying the Laboratory Supervisor of deviations.
  • Ensure overall organization and cleanliness of the laboratory as part of the team.
  • Work directly with the Laboratory Supervisor to source appropriate scientific literature as requested for designing experimental framework for research as well as maintaining the accuracy/efficiency of all standard operating procedures, methods and work instructions.
  • Manage procedures through established protocols.
  • Maintain a high degree of technical competence by reading scientific journals and attending professional classes, as opportunity allows, remaining aware of current water treatment issues and trends.
  • Close observation of testing to maximize learning gained from research.
  • Responsible for ensuring accuracy of testing results at all times and immediately informing Supervisor of deviations.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Education, Skills and Abilities:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry or related field required.
  • Some-2 years of related R&D laboratory research.
  • Hands-on experience with microbiology and chemistry experimentation techniques preferred.
  • The ability to communicate clearly in oral and written form are required.
  • Requires a technical scientific background and strong interest in research and product development.
  • Detail oriented. Strong organization and communication skills. Computer literacy, including knowledge and experience with technical writing, Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.

LABORATORY INTERN

Job Duties:
  • Lab Maintenance: Cleaning glassware, media and reagent preparation, autoclave operation, etc.
  • Assist in necessary preparations of materials and product testing. This may include, preparing the test site, assembling test samples, and setting up or taking down equipment.
  • Occasionally assist in viral and bacterial preparation, testing and cleanup as necessary. This may include: a. Growth and maintenance of MS-2 coliphage, Escherichia coli, Raoultella terrigena, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus as required for experiments. b. Maintenance of various required growth media (tryptic soy agar, tryptic soy broth, PSA, PIA, MSA, etc.). c. Cleaning and sterilization of supplies and biohazardous materials in the autoclave or by proper chlorine sterilization techniques.
  • Apply and review aseptic/microbiological as well as sound chemical techniques in the daily workload.
  • Assist in making sure that all procedures are performed with accuracy and precision while complying with safety regulations, notifying the Laboratory Supervisor of deviations.
  • Operate and assist in maintaining laboratory facilities, standard methods, equipment and records.
  • Notify Laboratory Supervisor of any supply needs as they arise.
  • Ensure overall organization of the laboratory.

  • High school diploma or GED required. Applicants with college level courses in microbiology, biology, and chemistry or related fields will be preferred.

  • Strong interest in research and product development for water treatment.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills and computer literacy, including knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel are preferred.
  • Work is routinely performed in a microbiology laboratory setting. Other work areas may include manufacturing and office environments. Adverse conditions may include: 1) Sitting or standing for extended periods of time; 2) Repetitive motion (cleaning, assembling, and measuring); 3) Some work with non-pathogenic microorganisms and laboratory chemicals.

BUSINESS UNIT SALES MANAGER

General Summary of Responsibilities:

The Business Unit Sales Manager is responsible for maximizing the revenue performance of the six brands in the Emerging Brands business unit: Platypus, SealLine, Packtowl, Ecase, Hummingbird, Tracks. This is done by leading the sales force to achieve annual sales plans across US, Canada, PacRim, and Direct-to-Consumer regions. In addition, this role will drive the development and execution of the BU distribution strategy, including expansion into new sales channels; ensure effective sell-in for both existing and new products; and represent the voice of the sales force and dealers in the development of product, pricing, and marketing strategies.

Job Duties:
  • Participate in creation of overall BU and brand strategies, working closely with Brand Directors • Understand the competition and their behavior across sales channels • Be the voice of the reps/accounts for product, pricing, distribution, and marketing decisions • Proactively engage selected reps in early stage planning of product and market strategy
  • Manage and motivate sales force to achieve annual revenue targets • Create annual sales plans by brand, and update forecast regularly. • Analyze performance vs plan, and coordinate with regions and sales reps to achieve results. • Identify sales growth opportunities and challenges, and address as appropriate • Serve as primary sales champion and point of contact for each brand. Generate regular updates for reps, for inclusion in communications issued by Customer Experience department. Support regional promotions, co-op marketing programs, training events. Establish close out strategies. Drive development of custom products for accounts. Meet with key accounts as needed. • Evaluate ROI on sales programs, promotions, and other initiatives • Partner with Customer Experience to ensure high levels of account service
  • Lead the sell-in cycle for BU, generally twice annually • Support Brand Directors in the development of pricing in each region o Contribute to decisions on MSRP, based on knowledge of dealer requirements and competitive environment o Develop MAP policy for each brand, including promo windows and discount structure. • Lead the development of sales programs and materials. Includes workbook and trade show booth; merchandising/POS; clinic training materials and specials. • Lead Sales Meetings, including creation of agenda and sell-in story /presentations. • Represent brands in key account discussions at trade shows and other planning meetings
  • Define, launch, and manage distribution strategy for each brand • Evaluate geographic regions within Outdoor, determine greatest opportunities for growth, and implement strategies to achieve them • Develop and launch a plan for aggressive expansion into channels beyond Outdoor (including travel, fitness, electronics, gift, direct-to-consumer, mass). Includes recommended channel mix, identification of key accounts, program requirements, and initial assessment of reps / distributors. • Establish detailed distribution policies, including brand and product placement
Education, Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years sales experience, of which at least 3 must be as an in-house sales manager overseeing rep groups, distributors, and/or key accounts. Candidates with outdoor industry experience preferred; additional experience in non-outdoor channels highly desired. Must have a demonstrated passion for outdoor activities and/or adventure travel.
  • Education: BA/BS degree (or equivalent experience), business or marketing preferred.
  • Proven ability to motivate a sales force to exceed sales targets
  • Proven ability to diagnose sales performance challenges and address as appropriate; also able to recognize, qualify, and close sales opportunities.

CONFIGURATION CONTROL COORDINATOR

General Summary of Responsibilities:

Coordinate, monitor, and expedite all phases of the engineering change process from start to finish. Organize the efforts of Purchasing, Engineering, Quality Assurance, Production, Inventory, Product Development, Sales, Planning, and Document Control to ensure engineering changes happen in a timely, cost effective, and error free manner. Perform data entry tasks necessary in JDE and SharePoint. Distribute and file documents associated with engineering changes

Job Duties:
  • Oversee Engineering Change Order (ECO) process from initiation to completion. Input ECO/ECI data into SharePoint (i.e., scan documents, drawings/specifications, bills of material, etc.). Review controlled documents for discrepancies.
  • Assist with monitoring, expediting, providing support and troubleshooting all phases of the ECO process and insure changes happen in a timely, cost effective and error free manner.
  • Assign and log out new part numbers. Input new part numbers into JDE and assist with ensuring numbers are updated in applicable add-on programs (i.e. Madrona, IPlanner, etc.). Create, update, and maintain Bills of Material (BOM) and Bills of Labor (BOL). Monitor obsolete and discontinued items.
  • Perform necessary data entry to propagate approved ECO changes. Copy, file and archive controlled documents and distribute to key project participants (internally and externally) as needed.
  • Communicate changes professionally and effectively in a timely manner. Attend/Chair meetings to help facilitate product changes. Prepare charts, graphs and spread sheets as needed.
  • Perform any other duties and/or tasks that may be assigned on an as-needed basis.
Education, Skills and Abilities:
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Experience in drafting, purchasing, quality assurance, configuration control, planning, inventory control or manufacturing processes preferred.
  • Configuration Management certification preferred. Configuration Management certification required within the first year and should take updated courses every two or three years.
  • Previous document/configuration control background strongly preferred.
  • Must have strong computer skills in MS Office including SharePoint.
  • Basic understanding of Bills of Material (BOM) and Bills of Labor (BOL) structures strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to multi-task in a sometimes demanding environment with ability to work independently, prioritize and meet deadlines. Must have an acute attention to detail, excellent organizational skills and ability to think logically.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a multicultural atmosphere including effective skills in English (written and verbal) and ability to exert authority in a congenial manner.

PRODUCT MANAGER – PLATYPUS

General Summary of Responsibilities:

The Product Manager for Platypus will assist the Brand Director in developing a comprehensive product line strategy, and then execute that strategy by leading development teams to find innovative solutions that fulfill customer requirements. They will communicate product information both inside and outside of the company, and support the product already in the marketplace by determining the ongoing fitness for use of the product. This position is also responsible for being the primary back up to the Brand Director, staying up to date on industry and consumer trends as well as competitive product offerings.

Job Duties:
  • Work with Brand Director to understand market needs and develop overall product line strategy. Assist in the business case development for new products, including defining business objectives, product positioning, product requirements, and financial return on investment. Assist in the periodic review of existing products, including decisions to update or cull from the line.
  • Prioritize, coordinate, and participate in all product development projects for assigned product lines. Be the project manager and/or technical lead when necessary. Understand customer needs and establish and maintain product/packaging design briefs. Review designs and specifications developed by design team to ensure requirements are met, work with manufacturing to ensure manufacturability and design quality, and establish and monitor relationships with key suppliers. Be the key driver behind the research and evaluation of new technologies. Approve and coordinate design changes.
  • Responsible for ensuring products are designed, packaged, and manufactured in a way that fully satisfies the needs of the customers. Work with cross-functional teams to complete and respond to appropriate testing, including fitness for use and market validation.
  • Monitor product line profitability and critical quality issues. Assist Brand Director with pricing decisions. Responsible for direct product costs, including: bill of materials, bill of labor and make/buy decisions. Minimize the cost of obsolete materials and finished goods when considering and implementing design and packaging changes.
  • Coordinate with Marketing to assure technical accuracy of copy and product positioning. Product Managers are responsible for accuracy of all product claims and Instructions for Use. Provide input on website content, packaging, POS materials, and naming of products in assigned product lines.
  • Benchmark competitive product performance, pricing, distribution, technology, development tools, and quality. Coordinate Technical Competitive Analyses by requesting lab and comparative analyses of competitive product.
  • Coordinate with the Legal department to ensure product lines meet all applicable regulatory standards. Understand regulations that govern the design, functionality, or use of the products and translate that to product development teams. Assure (along with Legal) that appropriate licenses and permits are obtained and maintained for the sale of products.
  • Coordinate with Marketing services, Product Development, and the Legal department to ensure appropriate patent protection for all assigned products.
  • Support Consumer Service, Sales departments, reps and key accounts with product line training (e.g. clinics, field promotions) and product information as requested. Coordinate development and production of new product sales samples for the lines. Trade show, regional rep shows, consumer events and distributor support as necessary.
  • Responsible for spending time in the field using the product to better understand the customer and the product line needs from a first-hand perspective. Product Managers must understand the history of the product line and the end consumer’s use for their products, and champion the voice of the customer throughout the development process.
Education, Skills and Abilities:
  • Passion for the product line and minimum 2 years product manager experience in the outdoor industry. Must have a balanced blend of 1) manufacturing/product development for products with similar complexity and liability and 2) business management.
  • BA/BS degree required, preferably in engineering or otherwise technical field. Or 10 years equivalent experience.
  • Good verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate and win consensus of others that do not report directly to you.
  • Ability to resolve conflicting priorities to achieve multiple goals.
  • Competent in business/retail math.

FULFILLMENT MANAGER- MADE IN MARKET

General Summary of Responsibilities:

Oversee management of Made in Market (manufactured) purchased materials. The position will ensure the Supply Chain planning relationship for materials purchased to support the manufacturing process is balanced, achieves service goals, manages cost objectives, and delivers quality products.

Education, Skills and Abilities:
  • BA in Purchasing or Business related field.
  • APICS, CPM or similar certification(s) preferred.
